The Multitude is the sum of individual selves. The Multitude does not substitute its own will for that of the individual, as the People do. The People are one, with their Popular Will taking precedence over the will of every single individual. The Multitude comprises many wills without standardising them, without reducing them to a synthesis. Their synthesis, their unity, does not lie in something artificial, imposed by convention, as is the case with the ‘will of the people’, but resides in a universality that is totally and radically heterogeneous to that of the people and the state.

There is a ‘public intellect’ and a ‘connection with the other’ that give rise to a public language in the sense of a single language spoken by every individual self. The Ecosystem is one of the possible forms of organisation of the Multitude. It consists of all those organised, autonomous entities, interconnected with one another, on a path to definitively overcome known hierarchical forms and open up to participatory forms of “horizontal hierarchies”.
